Mokume Gane
A Guide to Custom Designs
What is Mokume Gane?
Mokume Gane is an ancient Japanese blacksmithing technique that combines different colored metals into one layered material that can be patterned to resemble wood grain. The science of mokume has been refined in recent decades and is more common in jewelry than ever before.
The wood grain pattern is unique to each piece, no two are exactly alike. The process utilizes heating, forging and carving to create this effect. It is a very labor intensive and highly skilled technique that I specialize in at West Grove Design. I have been studying the technique for over fifteen years and I am very excited to work with you on your very own mokume piece.
Color Combinations
One of the unique things about mokume is the potential color combinations.
I can help you explore the different combinations to make a one of a kind piece that fits your personal style.
